Sun Life Financial Advisor Hosted Events – Event Rules 

This document outlines the rules for events hosted by Sun Life Financial (“SLF”) advisors for other advisors, FC management and staff, head office employees and industry partners. This document is intended to help reduce regulatory and operational risk for the Event. 

The rules within this document are specific to the 2019 Annual Advisor Hockey Tournament (the “Event”). The event organizer for this Event is Lester Ste. Croix (the “Event Organizer”). The event organizer for this Event is Lester Ste. Croix (the “Event Organizer”). The Event will be held March 2th and 3th, 2020 at Albert McCormic Arena, Waterloo, Ontario.

Event Rules of Conduct:

All participants must be SLF Advisors, Advisor Employees, Spouses of Advisors , SLF Employees or Staff, or industry partners.

All participants must be SLF advisors, advisor employees, SLF employees, or industry partners. 

All participants are required to sign an E-Waiver approved by SLF in advance of participating in the Event. 

Sun Life Financial advisors and advisor staff must adhere to all SLF policies regarding alcohol and drugs as posted on the Advisor Business Centre for any events offered during, concurrent with or after the Event. 

Sun Life Financial employees (Head Office staff and Financial Centre staff) must adhere to policies developed by SLF regarding alcohol and drugs as posted on The Source for any events offered during, concurrent with or after the Event. 

No participant may consume alcohol until his or her games for the day are completed.

Alcohol may only be consumed in the restaurant or bar area of the Event Location.

Illegal drugs and/or marijuana cannot be consumed at the Event venue and participants must not be under the influence of any illegal drugs and/or marijuana. 

The event organizer may terminate any individuals participating in the tournament if they are believed to be under the influence of any substance.

Sun Life Financial advisors, Managers and advisor staff must adhere to the “Code of Professional Conduct” as posted on the Advisor Business Centre. Sun Life Financial Centre Managers must also adhere to the “Code of Business Conduct”. 

Sun Life Financial employees (Head Office staff and Financial Centre staff) must adhere to the “Code of Business Conduct” as posted on The Source. 

The rules at the Event Location must be adhered to. 

All players are required to wear full equipment in accordance with Hockey Canada standards. 

Professional referees are hired for the event and are instructed that aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. 

No body contact, no slap shots above knee, and an automatic game ejection with 3 penalties in a game. Fighting results in tournament ejection and a $100 fine that is directed to the tournament charity. 

Tournament format

Each game will be 3 periods 10 minutes. Stop time, if tied, 3-man shoot out.

This year we have 12 teams !!  

There are 12 teams in the tourney this year. The schedule will be set by the tournament organizer, each team will be guaranteed 3 games. The team with the most points after day 1 will get a bye to the semi finals. The remaining 10 teams will play in the am of Day 2.  The top 3 teams with the most points will advance to the semi-finals.    

The top team from Day 1 will be ranked #1 and the remaining top 3 teams from Day 2 will be ranked accordingly.  #1 will play #4 and #2 will play #3 in the semi-finals, the 2 winners will play in the finals.  

The winning team will receive 3 points, if there is a tie, there will be a 3-person sudden death shoot out.  The winner of the shoot out receives 2 points and the loser receives 1 point. A regulation loss receives 0 points. Any teams that are tied in points after the  round robin will be decided by 1st – Least goals against, 2nd – Most goals for, 3rd – Least penalty minutes.  If there still is a tie, a coin toss will determine who moves on to the semi-finals.
